CIGNA leaf Part B HIPAA Billing Software

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has notified Medicare Carriers to continue offering the free or, "at cost" Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) billing software. Previously, CMS instructed Medicare Carriers to discontinue the software later this year. This change is good news for health care providers who are required under federal law to send electronic Medicare claims by October 16, 2003.

MCE (Medicare Claims Express), the Part B billing software, is currently available in the ANSI 4010A1 format. MCE replaces the former BMACS software which is no longer available or supported by CIGNA Government Services Part B. MCE is currently free to Part B health care providers. Those offices that are new to electronic claim filing and that are interested in using MCE must complete an EDI Enrollment Form, EDI Customer Profile, and MCE User Agreement to obtain the software. Offices that are currently approved to submit electronic claims will need to submit an updated EDI Customer Profile and MCE User Agreement.

Medicare Claims Express

Medicare Claims Express (MCE) is a free basic submission software package that provides you with the capability to transmit Medicare Part B claims electronically in the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) ASC X12 4010A1 Format. All providers setup using MCE will automatically be setup to receive the Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA). The ERA can be viewed using the free Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP) software available from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website.

To use this software package, your personal computer (PC) must meet the following minimum requirements:

Operating System: Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP
Microprocessor: Pentium 100 or higher required
Conventional Memory (RAM): Minimum of 64 MB required
Hard Disk Space: Minimum of 100 MB required
Modem Type: Must support Hayes Z Protocol
Floppy Drive: CD-ROM drive (if installing from a CD)
Printer: IBM or fully IBM compatible

*If minimum memory requirements are not met, check the owner's manual to see if your system has expansion capabilities.

A PC that does not meet the above minimum requirements will not be capable of running this software package. MCE is designed for use on a personal computer and is not recommended for network use. EDI Services cannot support MCE installation on a network. Any conflicts between the software and network attributes must be referred to your network support.
