Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate - The GreenLight PVP Laser Procedure
The GreenLight PVP Laser Procedure uses near contact vaporization technique to remove prostate tissue. In the absence of a National Coverage Determination (NCD) or Local Coverage Determination (LCD), this service will be evaluated based on Medicare’s general medical reasonableness and necessity criteria. The medical record must clearly document the need and rationale for the therapy.
Applicable ICD-9 codes include:
600.00 Hypertrophy (benign) of prostate without urinary obstruction;
600.01 Hypertrophy (benign) of prostate with urinary obstruction.
As there is no designated CPT code that accurately describes this procedure, a non-specific code must be used:
53899 Unlisted procedure, urinary system.
For medically necessary services, the non facility allowable fee for participating Tennessee providers will be $2,903.22 ($562.11 in the facility).
