Changes Included in Change Request (CR) 5614 for the July Update to the 2007 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Database - North Carolina

Based on changes to the Transitional Non-Facility and/or Transitional Facility Practice Expense Relative Value Units, the fees for the following list of CPT codes will be updated. In addition, the Work RVU for CPT code 33208 changed from 8.12 to 8.72 which will result in an increase. These changes will be implemented July 2, 2007 for dates of service on or after January 1, 2007.

The North Carolina Provider Outreach and Education team is very pleased to present an upcoming series of educational events targeted at several different specialties groups. Specialties in this series include Mental Health, Family/General Practice, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Physical Therapy, Radiology, and Hematology/Oncology. These specialties were selected based on feedback you provided and data we have received from the Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program. We will continue reviewing information and hope to offer events for different specialties in the fall!

Scheduled events are:

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 Workshop focusing on Mental Health – This will be a half-day workshop that discusses issues that are specific to mental health, including billing issues, psychiatric reductions and use of Advance Beneficiary Notices.
Wednesday, July 11, 2007 Ask-the-Contractor teleconference (ACT) specifically targeted at Family Practice, General Practice and Internal Medicine providers.
Tuesday, July 24, 2007 General Surgery/Procedure Workshop – This also will be a half-day workshop focusing on solutions for common issues that are associated with billing for procedures, including bilateral billing, multiple surgery guidelines, modifiers, using the Physician Fee Schedule Database and the Correct Coding Initiative.
Tuesday, August 7, 2007 Ask-the-Contractor teleconference (ACT) specifically targeted at providers who administer anesthesia and pain management.
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 Physical Therapy Workshop – Half-day workshop to address therapy billing, topics will include therapy caps, use of the KX modifier, documentation and the use of assistants.
Wednesday, September 5, 2007 Ask-the-Contractor teleconference (ACT) specifically targeted at providers who specialize in Radiology or perform radiological procedures.
Monday, September 24, 2007 Hematology and Oncology Workshop – Also a half-day workshop that will address issues that are specific to these specialties, topics will include infusions, drug administration, chemotherapy and billing issues.

Registration will become available approximately one month prior to the workshop. Please visit the website below often for updates. All workshops will be held in Greensboro, NC from 9am until 1pm. The cost for these workshops will be $25. The ACT teleconferences will be from 2 until 3:30 ET on the dates listed above. Additional information regarding these calls will be posted on our website closer to the time of the event.
